PTFE heat shrink sleeving

PTFE heat shrink is made from pure virgin PTFE with no fillers or additives, and therefore offers all the exceptional properties of PTFE.

 

PTFE’s high working temperature exceeds that of any other heat shrink polymer. In addition, it is completely resistant to virtually all chemicals, UV radiation, very high temperatures and voltage breakdown.

PTFE heat shrink sleeving is available in many standard sizes from 0.8mm to 51mm ID, in 4:1 and 2:1 shrink ratios, and the shrinking temperature is 327°C. As a result, very complex shapes or terminals can be covered. Find our PTFE Heat Shrink Sleeving Sizes.

PTFE Heat Shrink Unique Properties

PTFE Heat Shrink Applications

Even though the maximum continuous working temperature is 260°C, PTFE is still tough at 300°C and is not damaged by short term exposure at 400°C.

Owing to these properties, PTFE heat shrink is widely used in high temperature applications:

  • Fire critical applications

  • Terminal insulation on heating elements and jet engines

  • UV lamps

  • External aircraft fittings

Fitting Instructions

Select the correct size sleeve by allowing a generous amount of shrinkage, rather than using a tight sleeve if possible.

PTFE shrinks at temperatures over 330°C, so the gun temperature should be at least 400°C. To obtain the higher temperature we suggest a hot air gun of 1.5KW capacity.

Parts to be covered that have a large thermal mass, e.g. a solid steel roller, may need preheating when PTFE heat shrink is applied to prevent chilling of the PTFE sleeve, causing a loose fit.
